| Help Make the Loddon Mallee a premier trail and track destination - 5/11/2009 | Printer Friendly |
| | | | Recreational trails and tracks throughout Mildura Rural City will be put under the spotlight as part of a regional project to develop the Loddon Mallee into a premier destination for bushwalkers, cyclists, horse riders and kayakers.

 |
| The project will look at the existing network of trails and determine those which could be further enhanced to capitalise on the region’s unique natural and cultural characteristics.
A Bendigo-based planning company, communityvibe is facilitating the project on behalf of Councils in the Loddon Mallee region and will use input from local communities to develop the Loddon Mallee Iconic Trails Strategic Plan.
The Plan will identify potential walking, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing and horse riding trails of regional significance that will attract domestic and international tourists to the area.
Portfolio Councillor for Sport and Recreation Sue Nichols said trail enthusiasts were invited to participate in a community workshop in Mildura tonight to help identify local regional trail opportunities.
“The Mildura area is home to a range of scenic natural environments, places of unique historical interest and lively, vibrant communities. It’s important that these are included in the Loddon Mallee Iconic Trails Strategic Plan as its development could see them enhanced further,” she said.
“I encourage locals to attend the workshop and share their views on the important tracks and trails of our region.”
In particular, locals are encouraged to consider which trails provide links between towns, attractions and natural features in the region, that highlight unique regional features, that cater for a variety of different users, offer a range of experiences and have supporting infrastructure.
The Loddon Mallee Iconic Trails Strategic Plan community workshop will be held in the Committee Room at Council’s Deakin Avenue Service Centre, Mildura from 7pm to 8:30pm on Thursday 5 November 2009.
If you are unable to attend the workshop but would like to have you say in the development of the plan you can complete a public submission form and return it to the project facilitators. Forms are available online at http://www.communityvibe.com.au/iconic.pdf
