| | | | Mildura Rural City Council will defer interest until Wednesday 31 March 2010 on all unpaid 2009/10 rates due prior to this date.

| The move has been made in recognition of challenges the drought and economic climate is posing to all sectors of the community.
While conditions in some parts of Australia have improved Deputy Mayor Sue Nichols said the ramifications of ongoing water shortages were still being felt by Mildura Rural City ratepayers.
“Deferring interest on Council rates is one way Council can ease the burden many locals are carrying,” she said.
People experiencing difficulty paying their rates are encouraged to contact Council as soon as possible to take advantage of its hardship policy.
Ratepayers who have already made their first quarterly instalment will continue to receive quarterly instalment reminders.
Council deferred interest on unpaid rates for Primary Producers in 2005/06 and 2006/07, and for all ratepayers in 2007/08 and in 2008/2009. The current deferment does not apply to unpaid rates from previous years. |
