| Residents can escape the expected high temperatures with a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool at Mildura Waves as well as the Irymple, Red Cliffs, Ouyen, Underbool, Murrayville and Colignan swimming pools, all which will be open to the public on Sunday 1 November.
These pools were closed to the public during the cooler autumn and winter months while Council completed routine maintenance works on them. This included repairs to cracks in pool shells, upgrades to pool filtration systems, and improvements to irrigation systems used to maintain swimming pool landscapes and lawns.
Subsurface watering systems installed at the Irymple, Murrayville, Underbool and Ouyen pools will recycle backwash water from the swimming pool filtration systems to irrigate lawns.
The Merbein swimming pool, which is undergoing a major refurbishment, will also feature this new, water-wise irrigation system. The pool is expected to open later in November.
With pool season upon us Acting Mayor Councillor Sue Nichols has encouraged residents with backyard swimming pools and spas to ensure they are properly fenced.
“Backyard swimming pools provide hours of enjoyment and pleasure for many local residents who make the most of our region’s warm climate. But swimming pools also require a high level of responsibility,” she said.
Swimming pool and spa owners are required by law to meet government standards and regulations and are also expected to regularly maintain safety barriers around their pool or spa.
