| Applying for Citizenship | | Permanent Residents that have lived in Australia for two or more years may be eligible to apply for Australian Citizenship. For information on becoming an Australian Citizen, please refer to the Australian Citizenship website or telephone the Citizenship Information line on 131 800, where an interpreting service is also available.
Application forms for Citizenship are available on the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website. These forms are also available upon request from the Mildrua Rural City Council's Customer Service Centre, 108 - 116 Madden Avenue, Mildura.
The Beginning life in Australia booklet, available from the Department of Immigration & Citizenship, welcomes newly-arrived migrants and humanitarian entrants to Australia. It provides useful nation, state/territory and local settlement information and is available to download in English and 37 community languages for each state and territory.
Should you submit an application for Citizenship, and this is approved, the Department of Immigration shall notify your local Council office. It is their responsibility to confer Australian Citizenship, once the application is approved. The Mildura Rural City Council receives certificates every three months from the Department and averages approximately 100 conferrals per year.
A representative from the Mildura Rural City Council shall contact you, once your application has been approved, and advise you of your scheduled Citizenship Ceremony location and date, where you will recite the Oath and receive your Certificate of Citizenship.

| Citizenship Ceremonies | | Citizenship Ceremonies are an opportunity for all Australian's to celebrate our unity as a nation, and welcome the newest members to our society. Conferees are able to invite family and close friends to attend their ceremony and share in this celebration. It is also encouraged that members of the general public attend these events, as they are open to all.
