| As part of its commitment to providing improved community infrastructure, Mildura Rural City Council announced the construction of a community soundshell earlier this year.
Recent community consultation sessions have indicated a strong and positive community response to the proposal. The concept will now be further developed in consultation with relevant authorities.
The facility is designed to provide a flexible space catering for small, medium and large events and has the capacity to cater for audiences of up to 15,000 people.
The Soundshell plans include a 12x10m stage, back of house facilities including toilets, storage and performer’s facilities. The plans include significant input from acoustics and theatre experts and local community user groups.
Councillor for Planning Sharon Morrison said the project would provide Mildura with a significant new venue that would act as an important gathering space.
“This community facility is a significant and real step in the development of Council’s Riverfront Masterplan,” Councillor Morrison said.
“It will provide an ideal and versatile space for small performances, ranging to significant community gatherings and concerts such as this year’s Powderfinger and Silverchair performance for which portable facilities were assembled.”
The soundshell is part of the significant gardens precinct of Council’s award-winning Riverfront Masterplan.
