Current Status

Following input from community consultation undertaken last year, Mildura Rural City Council has finalised its review of both the Alfresco Dining and Street Trader Policies.  Both policies have been combined into one as the Footpath Trading Policy and the draft document is now available for public comment from Friday 9 March 2018 to Friday 6 April 2018.

Responses from the two previous rounds of consultation and engagement sessions have been gathered, considered, evaluated and compiled. Some of the major changes include:

  • A new policy objective to “encourage new forms of trading which activates public spaces”.
  • More temporary food vans permitted
  • Placemaking items to be located in trading areas
  • Enforcement and application process clarified
  • Temporary/removable structures preferred
  • Clearer intersection set backs
  • Guidance for locations of items with Langtree Mall.

Background

What does the project aim to achieve?

The project is part of Council’s policy review process. During the last 3 years, we have seen an increase in how lively our streets have become with outdoor dining and street trading. To ensure currency with our policies we are seeking feedback from the community, business owners, traders and other agencies in regards to these policies.

What area of the municipality does it affect?

These policies are implemented across the whole municipality, excluding the Mildura Riverfront area.

This review has aims to explore options for specific guidance to the Feast Street Parklet Trial, Langtree Mall, and additional food trucks.

How long is it expected to take to complete?

It is expected the reviewed policies will be endorsed by Council in May 2018.

Who do we contact for more information?

Please contact Phoebe Wilson of the Strategic Planning team on 5018 8419, or email planning.services@mildura.vic.gov.au
