Mildura Riverfront Precinct Redevelopment

The vision for the Mildura Riverfront Redevelopment is to connect our town to the river and create a unique space that has the potential to be a tourist destination in its own right. It aims to establish Mildura as Victoria’s most significant inland river city. Read the project fact sheet for more information.

The Mildura Riverfront Redevelopment is being carried out in two stages.

Stage 1

Stage 1 of the Mildura Riverfront Precinct Redevelopment is led by Mildura Rural City Council.

The $13.3 million ($7m Victorian State Government + $4.8m Federal + $1.5m Mildura Rural City Council) project will enhance the 1.2km stretch of parklands and facilities from Nowingi Place through to the Powerhouse.

Stage 1 will deliver upgrades to the Rowing Club and Powerhouse precinct, cultural interpretation, boardwalks, water play, pop-up cafe/kiosk opportunities, upgrades to existing facilities around Nowingi Place, the skate park and more.

The aim is to build on our existing assets and related activities so residents and visitors can further enjoy cultural, community and recreational opportunities along the riverfront.

The Design Phase for Stage 1 commenced in February 2013 with the appointment of a design team: Landscape Architect Tract Consultants and Gregory Burgess Architects, who will work with our community to develop plans for the parklands.

Stage 1 Community Reference Group
A Community Reference Group has been appointed for the project. It consists of 20 representatives of local organisations and four individual community members who were selected through a public Expression of Interest process.

The Community Reference Group have been offering ideas and views on aspects of the project and discussing issues and opportunities. The group will continue to meet throughout the design process to ensure the proposal developed meets community needs.

Community Consultation
Consultation will be ongoing throughout the project. The recent survey for community input into the concept design for Stage 1 has now closed but you can provide your comments and thoughts about the project to Council at any time, just refer to the contact details below.

Opportunities for community wide feedback on the design proposals for Stage 1 will continue to be publicised including the forthcoming Concept Design which is currently being developed. You can also register your interest below for updates.

Stage 2

Stage 2 of the Mildura Riverfront Redevelopment Precinct is managed by Places Victoria on behalf of Regional Development Victoria and takes in the land alongside the railway line.

In 2012 Places Victoria reviewed the 2010 Riverfront Masterplan and developed a business case which will be submitted to the State Government for funding consideration early in 2013. If successful, the first part of Stage 2 will begin late 2013 and will include a new pedestrian connection from Langtree Avenue to the riverfront, upgraded Rowing Club Lawns and new Tourism Centre with restaurant, café and gallery.
