Mildura Rural City Council will close the Orange Avenue car park between Ninth and Tenth Streets next Thursday, 20 July as part of works to improve public safety in the car park at night.

The planned works follow a request from Victoria Police to remove 14 trees from the car park in a bid to improve lighting and public safety. Removal of the trees will also allow for an additional 16 car parking spaces.

The trees, which have no historical significance, will be removed on Thursday, however the car park will be closed from 6pm Wednesday, 19 July in preparation for the works. The facility is expected to reopen on Thursday afternoon.

Councillor for Environmental Sustainability Anthony Cirillo said that while Council attempted to retain trees in public areas wherever possible, public safety should be a priority.
