The Voice Australia favourite headlining New Year’s Eve entertainment

Published on 18 December 2015

Peta Evans-Taylor, who made it to the top 3 in Team Madden in this year’s season of hit television show The Voice Australia is set to wow crowds in Mildura this New Year’s Eve.

Known for her big voice and rocking stage presence, Peta and her newly formed band will play a range of covers and original music at the free, all-ages event to be held at the Nowingi Place on December 31.

Kicking off at 7pm, this year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations will also include entertainment from acoustic duo Lily and the Drum, children’s favourite Shaun the Sheep and the Blues Brothers show from Ratbagz Comedy Theatre.

Two spectacular fireworks displays will also light up the night sky, one at 9:30pm and another as the clock strikes midnight to signal the start of 2016.

Mayor Glenn Milne extended a warm welcome to locals and visitors alike, encouraging everyone to come along and enjoy what is sure to be a brilliant evening.

“Last year more than 5,000 people of all ages celebrated the start of the New Year on the riverfront at this event, and I am sure this year will be just as popular,” he said.

“The entertainment line-up is very exciting, with something for the whole family.”

As well as the free performances on stage from 7pm, there will also be a range of children’s amusements, refreshments and food stalls available for purchase.

“In previous years we have started the event at 8pm, but this year it will get underway from 7pm. This is a great opportunity for people to maybe enjoy some time at the new water play area before moving over to the Nowingi Place to share dinner and settle in for the evening,” Cr Milne said.

People attending the celebrations are encouraged to bring along deck chairs, rugs, a picnic, and insect repellent and reminded that the family-friendly event is strictly, drug, alcohol, glass and smoke-free. If you’re driving, you’re encouraged to park in the Nowingi Place top car park, located off Seventh Street.

“I encourage families to come along for a fun evening to mark the end of 2015 and welcome in the New Year,” Cr Milne said.

Cr Milne also reminded people with pets to ensure they were kept secure on New Year’s Eve as fireworks displays can scare cats and dogs and cause them to escape from their yards.

New Year’s Eve celebrations start at 7pm at the Nowingi Place on Mildura’s riverfront, Hugh King Drive.
