Mildura Rural City Council has enjoyed a significant improvement in its community satisfaction rating according to the latest Victorian Government survey.

The telephone survey of 400 residents conducted in February and March this year produced an overall performance rating for Mildura of 60, compared to the Regional Council Group average of 57 and state average of 59.

The result is also a five-point jump on Mildura’s 2016 score, representing the municipality’s highest score since 2013, and higher than, or equal to both Regional and state averages across Victoria.

The survey measured performance in seven key areas: overall performance, community consultation, advocacy, making community decisions, sealed local roads, customer service and overall Council direction.

Mildura’s biggest performance improvement was in the ‘making decisions’ (decisions made in the interest of the community) and ‘overall Council direction’ categories, registering a five and six-point improvement respectively, however there were performance improvements across all but one of the seven areas.

These two areas also represented the biggest performance gap between Mildura and both Regional Centres and state-wide results.

The condition of Council’s sealed local roads was another area where Mildura showed a significant improvement compared to other areas across the state, as was Council’s community consultation.

Mildura Mayor Glenn Milne said that given the survey was an indication of the community’s perception of Council, the results were a positive sign Council was working in the right direction.

“Ultimately, Council exists and operates for the community, and results like this are very pleasing and indicate to us that we’re responding to the community’s needs in the right way,” Cr Milne said.

“Importantly, as we’ve done in previous years, these results also show us where Council can improve and help us more effectively deliver services to the community.”
