Madden Avenue reconstruction works

One of the busiest sections of Madden Avenue in Mildura is set for an overhaul with major reconstruction works planned early next month.

The works will focus on the area between Tenth and Eleventh Streets and see the road pavement reconstructed and then resurfaced, and existing kerb and channelling replaced.

As part of the works, the centre median will be removed and the existing parallel parking replaced with angle parking, ensuring a consistent approach along the entire length of Madden Avenue.

Councillor for Infrastructure and Transport Greg Brown said that along with consistency, the new design will provide an additional 25 car parking spaces.

“This stretch of Madden Avenue is very heavily trafficked, with about 4000 vehicles using the road every day,” Cr Brown said.

“The road has simply reached the end of its useful life, as has the drainage infrastructure beneath the road, making it important to act now.

“While we’re undertaking such extensive works, it’s the perfect opportunity to bring this stretch of Madden Avenue into line with the rest of this busy street by introducing angle parking, which will ultimately provide more spaces for both residents and customers of nearby businesses.”

Preliminary work will start next week to remove trees planted in the middle of the roadway ahead of the centre median being removed in early April.

New trees will be planted within the angle parking areas of Madden Avenue between Ninth and Eleventh Streets once the roadworks have been completed to offset the removal of trees from the centre median.

The works are expected to take three months to complete. While the road is under construction, nearby footpaths will remain accessible at all times, and local businesses will be open and accessible throughout this period.

While there will be brief periods when Madden Avenue will need to be fully closed, Council aims to ensure the road is partially open to traffic as much as possible throughout the construction period.

This project is made possible thanks to the Australian Government's Roads to Recovery program.
