The interest of local artists Jennifer Matthews, Lynette McDonald and Valarie Robinson in the marks made on the environment by earth, wind, water and fire has led to the development of a new exciting body of works – Elemental.

The exhibition, due to open at the Mildura Arts Centre at 6pm, Thursday, 22 June will feature a diverse range of styles and mediums including glass, acrylic and encaustic painting, mixed media textiles and works on paper.

Mildura Rural City Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said the artworks demonstrated each artist’s individual style and interpretation of the local landscape, which has led to the many different artworks visitors will see in the Elemental exhibition.

“It’s great to showcase the work of local artists at Mildura Arts Centre,” Cr Modica said.

“We are fortunate to have so many visual artists in our community and this exhibition is particularly interesting because of the thematic focus on environmental elements interacting with the landscape, which I’m sure will provoke different responses from the people viewing the works.”

The exhibition runs from Thursday, 22 June to Sunday, 6 August. For more information, interview requests and images, please contact Helen Piscioneri at Mildura Arts Centre at helen.piscioneri@mildura.vic.gov.au or on (03) 5018 8330.
