Mildura Arts Centre will host an international first this month as the first regional location in Australia to feature the Kylie on Stage exhibition, thanks to generous support from Creative Victoria.

The major exhibition celebrates pivotal moments from Kylie Minogue’s highly successful concert tours and has so far only been shown at Arts Centre Melbourne, attracting almost 200,000 people.

The tour has been made possible with support through the Victorian Government’s Major Touring program.

“This incredible exhibition gives an insight into the stagecraft of a music icon who started her career here in Victoria before taking on the world,” Victorian Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley said.

“Kylie is an artist of enduring appeal, previous exhibitions of her costumes drew massive crowds to London and Melbourne, and this is sure to be a major drawcard for Mildura Arts Centre and for the region.

“We are proud to help bring this exhibition to Mildura. It’s opportunities like this and venues like Mildura Arts Centre that make us the creative state.”

Mildura Rural City Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said the Mildura exhibition would be one of only four regional Victoria locations to host Kylie on Stage.

“This is not only a unique opportunity for residents in the Sunraysia area, but for residents interstate, including Broken Hill, the Riverland and Adelaide, as this will be the closest location they’ll be able to take in this stunning exhibition,” Cr Modica said.

“It’s also an exciting opportunity to partner with Arts Centre Melbourne to present a touring exhibition of this calibre.”

The free exhibition is based on Kylie’s spectacular stage wardrobe and includes costumes from tours including Disco in Dreams (1989) right through to more recent performances, such as last year’s Kylie Kiss Me Once.

Other tours featured in the exhibition include Enjoy Yourself (1990), Rhythm of Love (1991), Let’s Get to It (1991), Intimate and Live (1998), On a Night Like This (2001), Kylie Fever (2003), Kylie Showgirl (2005), Kylie Homecoming (2006), Kylie X2008 (2008) and Kylie Aphrodite les Follies (2011).

The exhibition will feature designs, photographs and footage that explore the creative processes behind Kylie’s ground-breaking performances.

It will also showcase the works of some of the world’s finest and most recognised designers including Dolce and Gabbana, John Galliano, Julien Macdonald, Karl Lagerfeld, Jean Paul Gaultier and Australian designers Peter Morrissey and Mark Burnett.

Kylie on Stage will open at Mildura Arts Centre on 19 August and run through until 29 October
