Residents in Nangiloc, Colignan and Iraak are being issued with new rubbish and recycling bins ahead of the introduction of kerbside waste collections.

The new measures were adopted at the April Ordinary Council Meeting earlier this year and will see a weekly rubbish and fortnightly recycling service introduced to these communities with the first rubbish collection scheduled for Friday 2 September.

Environmental Sustainability portfolio Councillor Judi Harris said the changes are integral to Council’s ongoing commitment to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill and encouraging resource recycling across our municipality.

“The consultation with these communities was very thorough and we understand some of the initial concerns around these changes.  The new kerbside service will not only provide residents with a convenient way to dispose of waste and recycling, it will also support our work to reduce our environmental impact.”

As part of the roll-out, each household will receive an information pack with their bins to help them understand what can be recycled and what needs to go into the rubbish, as well as where to place the bins for collection.

“The first weekly rubbish collection will take place on Friday 2 September and it is important people put their bins out the night before, on the Thursday evening,” Cr Harris explained.  “Recycling is picked up fortnightly, with the first pick up for recycling scheduled for Friday 9 September.”

Deliveries of the 120lt rubbish bin and the 240lt recycling bin will begin on Monday 8 August and anyone who has not received their bin by Tuesday 30 August is asked to contact Council on (03) 5018 8100.

“We really encourage anyone with any questions to contact our Customer Service staff.  We would love to see the transition go as smoothly as possible.”

Further information about kerbside waste services is available from Council’s website at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/waste or from any of Council’s service centres.
