Community groups and businesses keen to learn more about White Ribbon can have our White Ribbon Ambassadors or Advocates visit them and speak directly to their members and staff.

Council became Sunraysia’s first White Ribbon-accredited workplace in March 2016, highlighting our whole-of-organisation commitment to stop men’s violence against women.

At the time of our accreditation, we had four White Ribbon Ambassadors, who are men that recognise the importance of males taking responsibility and being part of the solution to end violence again women.

Council has since increased its commitment with a raft of measures, including the announcement last year of our region’s first two White Ribbon Advocates, who are female representatives of White Ribbon that promote gender equality, respectful relationships and the engagement of men to stop violence against women.

In an effort to broaden the White Ribbon message to as many people as possible, our Ambassadors and Advocates are keen to visit local workplaces and groups.

Gerard José, a White Ribbon Ambassador and Mildura Rural City Council’s CEO, strongly encouraged the community to take up the offer to learn more and become involved. He said he and Mildura Mayor Mark Eckel, who is also one of Council’s White Ribbon Ambassadors, are passionate about creating safer communities for all.

“If there’s an opportunity to impart our passion to end violence against women, we’re only too happy to attend one of your meetings and talk more about the work we’re doing and the White Ribbon workplace accreditation program,” Mr José said.

“Whether it’s encouraging more businesses to become White Ribbon-accredited, or simply raising awareness about the disturbing rates of violence against women that continue to occur, we’d love to come out and speak to as many people as possible.” Cr Eckel said.
