Help us clean up our city by taking part in our Litter Strategy survey

Are there areas in the Mildura region that you see frequently littered with rubbish? If so, we want to hear about it in a bid to significantly reduce littering in our municipality over the coming five years.

Council is developing a Litter Strategy aimed at minimising both the occurrence and impacts of littering and illegal dumping in our region.

As part of this process, we’re conducting a short survey to find out where residents see the most litter, the most common types of litter and residents’ understanding of why it is an issue.

Councillor for Environmental and Farming Sustainability Anthony Cirillo urged residents to become involved.

“Council is committed to providing a clean and litter-free region for locals and visitors to enjoy,” Cr Cirillo said.

“With input from the community, our five-year Litter Strategy will guide how we work to achieve this vision,” Cr Cirillo said.

Litter is rubbish such as paper, cans and bottles left lying in open or public spaces and is one of the most visible signs of pollution and a waste of resources.

It also poses a threat to the health and wellbeing of both our environment and our community.

Cr Cirillo said that so far this year there have been 236 reports of illegal dumping in our region, providing an indication of the problem and the need to change the thinking of some residents in relation to litter.

Once the survey closes, residents’ feedback will be used in the development of Council’s five-year Litter Strategy.
