Mildura’s riverfront will come alive with food stalls, stilt walkers, live music, free children’s activities, a paddleboat flotilla and a farmers market next month as part of an exciting event to celebrate the popular public precinct.

Riverfront Fest will run from 1pm to 9:30pm on Saturday 4 November 2017, marking the completion of Stage One of the Mildura Riverfront Precinct Redevelopment.

Over the past five years, Mildura’s iconic riverfront has been revitalised thanks to an investment of more than $19 million from the Australian Government, Victorian State Government and Mildura Rural City Council.

A 1.2 km stretch of public land from the Nowingi Place to the Powerhouse next to Jaycee Park has been upgraded with highlights including new public amenities at Nowingi Place, a water play park, pedestrian promenade, skate park enhancements, way finding signage, art, lighting, landscaping, repairs to the crib wall and the redevelopment of the Mildura Rowing Club. The project also connected the river to Mildura’s CBD at Langtree Avenue with pedestrian access across the railway line.

“Riverfront Fest is an opportunity to officially mark the conclusion of the first phase of this landmark project and to come together as a community to celebrate our riverfront,” Cr Milne said.

“We’re incredibly lucky that our regional city is set on one of the most beautiful and wide stretches of the Murray River. This project has made the most of our river setting, capitalising on the social, economic, cultural and tourism benefits the river offers.”

The Hon Fiona Nash, Minister for Regional Development will attend Riverfront Fest to officially open Stage One of the Mildura Riverfront Precinct Redevelopment.

A jam packed program of free entertainment is planned for Riverfront Fest, running from 2pm to 9:30pm following the official proceedings. A variety of bands, soloists and performers will roam throughout the precinct and on two separate stages, including one in front of the Rowing Club lawns.

The Sunraysia Farmer’s Market and Boutique Markets will host a twilight event, and there’ll be plenty of other food options available.

“This is set to be a wonderful community celebration which I encourage everyone to enjoy. It’s also a chance to appreciate the transformation our riverfront has undergone and to pay tribute to the generous funding partners and the hundreds of people who have helped make the project possible.”

The Mildura Riverfront Precinct Redevelopment – Stage One was funded in partnership with the Australian Government, Victorian State Government and Mildura Rural City Council.
