There is just over a week until the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) Queen’s Baton Relay will arrive in Mildura.

18 batonbearers have been honoured to carry the Queen’s Baton in Mildura, bringing the excitement of the Games to our community.

The Mildura leg of the Relay will commence at the Nowingi Place at 3pm, with batonbearers carrying it through the CBD before it arrives at the Mildura Arts Centre at 4pm.

Locals are encouraged to line the streets and support our local batonbearers.

Mallee Sports Assembly will host ‘come and try’ sports activities with free giveaways at the Nowingi Place from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. Sports will include cricket, dragon boat racing, Rugby League, life saving, AFL, soccer and tennis. This is the perfect opportunity to get in to the sporting spirit of the Games and try something new.

A community celebration will be held at the Mildura Arts Centre from 4pm where the public can come together. The Queen’s Baton will be on display until approximately 4:30pm. Local acoustic trio Off the Chai will perform live and there will be plenty of delicious options to fill tummies including a barbecue from the Lions Club of Mildura, waffles from the Vintage Catering Co. and platters from the Mildura Arts Centre Café. The bar will also be open for drinks sales.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic rug or chairs to relax and enjoy the evening.

Mayor Mark Eckel said he was delighted Mildura was hosting the GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay.

“Hosting the Queen’s Baton Relay is not only an exciting opportunity for us, it’s a way to highlight and promote our region to people in Australia and the world who have been following the Queen’s Baton extraordinary journey,” Cr Eckel said.
