Sunraysia’s future music stars seeking to make their mark on the music industry are being encouraged to nominate for this year’s FReeZA Push Start Series – Battle of the Bands competition.

The Mildura competition is open to young musicians under 25 and will be held on Friday, 22 June at 93 Seventh Street (the old Repco building next to Stealthtech).

The event not only provides a chance for local artists to get noticed and gain exposure, but hone their musical and performing skills.

Open to performers of any style of music, including bands, soloists, duos, hip hop, electronic and acoustic acts, Mildura’s FReeZA Push Start Series – Battle of the Bands Competition is part of a broader state-wide competition showcasing young musicians from across Victoria.

Mildura Rural City Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole encouraged local artists to enter the competition, which also allows musicians to get their original material heard.

“We have numerous talented young musicians in our region who just need a chance to get noticed, and this is a fantastic opportunity to do just that,” Cr Poole said.

“They’ll have a chance to perform and gain local exposure, as well as win their way to a spot in the FReeZA Battle of the Bands grand final line-up.”

The Mildura FReeZA Committee is offering prizes of $500 for the local winner, as well as $100 for most popular band, judged by door vote.

Local artists interested in entering the competition can obtain application forms from Council’s website at www.mildura.vic.gov.au or by calling in to Mildura Rural City Council at 108 Madden Avenue, Mildura.

Artists can also keep up-to-date by visiting the Youth Services Facebook page.

Applications close at 5pm on Friday, 8 June.

For more information contact Council’s Youth Program and Participation Officer on (03) 5018 8280 or call in to Council’s Madden Avenue office.
