Seventeen Sunraysia-based groups received more than $72,000 this afternoon at Council’s Recreation Grants Program presentation.

Mildura RC Car Club, Underbool Recreation Reserve, Irymple Bocce Club, Irymple Cricket Club, North West Victorian Motorcycle Club, Merbein Bowling Club, Imperials Football Netball Club and Mildura Lawn Tennis Club, will all receive $6000 to upgrade their facilities.

Projects include connecting power at the Mildura RC Car Club’s site at the Aerodrome Sporting Complex, the installation of solar panels at Underbool Recreation Reserve and construction of spectator shelters at the North West Victorian Motorcycle Club.

Other projects funded through Council’s grants program will include the installation of mini-grandstand seating at Three Colours Soccer Club, upgrading female changerooms and toilets at Imperials Football Netball Club and the installation of a suspended ceiling at Mildura Lawn Tennis Club.

Mildura Rural City Councillor Min Poole said it was vital the district’s sporting and recreation groups could continue to upgrade and improve their facilities.

“Our recreation and sporting groups serve a vital role in the community, providing an outlet for residents in their chosen sport or avenue of interest,” Cr Poole said.

“Ensuring the district’s sporting and recreation groups can maintain or improve their facilities not only helps those involved in these hard-working clubs, but the thousands of residents in our municipality who utilise these facilities.”

Other projects to receive funding through Council’s Recreation Grants Program include power upgrades at the Mildura Speedway Drivers Club and upgrading security at the Mildura Live Saving Club clubrooms

Council’s Recreation grant program is designed to provide financial assistance to local sport and recreation groups to maintain and develop their facilities, as well as develop programs and opportunities for the broader community..
