Changes to Events Funding and Support Grants program

Mildura Rural City Council has introduced changes to its successful Events Funding and Support Grants scheme to provide a more flexible, simpler and fairer system for event organisers.
Under the changes, the current two rounds of funding per year will be reduced to one round and apply to events taking place between 1 July, 2018 and 30 June, 2019.
The new system will provide event organisers with a six-month window to apply for grants – between 1 September this year and 2 March next year.
Councillor for Economic Development and Tourism Mark Eckel said the changes followed feedback from event organisers as well as Council’s own analysis of the existing scheme.
“By shifting to a single round of grants per year, and the resulting six-month window to apply for grants, it will provide event organisers with more flexibility to plan and run their event within the funding deadlines,” Cr Eckel said.
“It’s also a move that was overwhelmingly supported during a recent consultation with our existing event organisers, and will make for a fairer assessment process given all events will be assessed at the same time.”
As part of the shift to a single-round grants program, Council’s Events and Projects team will hold a series of one-on-one information sessions with event organisers over the coming month - from 17 July until 17 August.
The sessions will provide a chance to brief event organisers in more detail about the changes and answer any questions they may have.
Cr Eckel said that while one of the main drivers behind the change to a single-round events grant scheme was to provide a better system for event organisers, it would also bring Council into line with the majority of other Council areas, which utilised a single-round program.
