On behalf of Mildura Rural City Council I offer my condolences to the family, friends and associates of Councillor Max Thorburn following his passing yesterday.

Cr Thorburn served continuously on Council since 2008 and was a strong voice for the community.

He represented his constituents with passion and vigour throughout his terms on Council and gave his time selflessly in a broad range of community and sporting spheres over many decades.

Cr Thorburn was always passionate about his role as a representative for his constituents and wasn’t afraid to stand up for them no matter what the topic - from the smallest of issues of concern to individual residents, right through to issues affecting the broader region.

His loss will certainly be felt in the Council chambers, however he has left a lasting legacy on this community in so many ways – whether it be through his role as a Councillor or the myriad of roles he served in the community, literally giving thousands of hours of his time over many years.

Council is saddened by his loss and our sympathy is with his family at this time.
