Mildura Rural City Council’s Bushland Watch Program aims to ensure Sunraysia residents can enjoy the numerous bushland areas throughout our region without impacting on future generations.

A simple-to-read Bushland Watch flyer is available at Council’s Deakin Avenue and Madden Avenue Service Centres and is designed to help visitors and locals alike enjoy our native Mallee environment responsibly.

The flyer provides tips on how to protect our bushland and information on how to report any threats people may come across, such as littering or illegal dumping of green waste and rubbish.

Councillor for Environmental and Farming Sustainability Anthony Cirillo said the overall aim of the program is to protect our region’s native trees, shrubs and grasses.

“Our bushland is vitally important as it provides a habitat for native animals and insects to live, eat and breed, whether it be on public or private land,” Cr Cirillo said.

“However, our bushland also serves an equally important role as an environment for us to enjoy and appreciate. By protecting it now, it will ensure it’s still there for future generations to enjoy.”

Some of the tips outlined in the flyer include never driving off designated tracks, taking rubbish with you when visiting or camping, and never driving vehicles on muddy tracks.

“Our native vegetation also serves a valuable role in maintaining water quality by preventing the salty water table from rising to the soil surface, as well as preventing soil from entering natural water bodies by holding the ground together,” Cr Cirillo said.
