Cinemas Project: Underfall
Friday, June 27, 2014
to Sunday, August 24, 2014

10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
The history and spaces of regional cinemas-around Victoria have inspired a major new statewide program of contemporary artworks curated by London-based curator and writer, Bridget Crone, who teaches at Goldsmiths, The University of London. The Cinemas Project is a program of major, new contemporary artworks that explore the spaces of cinema in regional Victoria. These projects, by five of Australia’s leading contemporary artists, evoke both the mechanics of film as well as the history and present day reality of cinema. They were places of social gathering but also of imagination and fantasy. Once important community hubs, particularly in regional towns where they often doubled as town halls or dance venues, movie theatres have long been evocative places filled with possibility. The Cinemas Project aims to explore and to reignite these sites of living memories, spirited visions, and future possibilities. Commissioned by NETS Victoria and supported by MADA through its international program, The Cinemas Project features works by five of Australia's leading contemporary artists. Installation and performance artist Mikala Dwyer is producing a new film-based work, Underfall, exploring the power of images to distort and disorientate, and referencing the architecture of cinema. Shot on location in Mildura, and featuring a soundtrack by local composer Kevin Sheehan, the work will be exhibited at the Mildura Arts Centre.

Highway of Lost Hearts
Thursday, July 31, 2014
7:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Presented by Mildura Arts Centre and Anne-Marie Butler.
A woman. A dog. A campervan. And 4,500km of wide open road. Mot wakes up one morning to find that her heart is missing from her chest. She can breathe; she has a pulse - but she feels ... nothing. So. She decideds to go and look for it. With her dog enlisted as co-pilot, Mot heads down the Highway of Lost Hearts; into the deepest core of the Australian outback - navigating red dirt landscapes, fire and flood, vast salt lakes, age-old mountains and murky waters filled with lost souls. And the further Mot drives into the deepest heart of Australia, the more she realises that everyone around her also seem to be missing some vital part of themselves. An allegory for a country that has lost its heart, Highway of Lost Hearts leaves you pondering the question: when your heart goes missing, what lengths will you go to, in order to find it again? Tickets: Adult $30.00, Concession $25.00 and Student $15.00. Tickets available from the Mildura Arts Centre via phone 03 5018 8330 or Mildura Visitor Information Centre via phone 03 5018 8376 or in person. On-line at www.milduraartscentre.com.au

Mildura Country Music Festival
Friday, September 26, 2014
to Sunday, October 05, 2014
When Australian country music fans talk about the festival 'biggies' the Mildura Country Music Festival rates a mention alongside Tamworth Country Music Festival and the Gympie Music Muster as one of the big three. The major difference between the other two and the 28th annual Mildura Country Music Festival is Australia's biggest showcase of Independent entertainers. What that means is a seemingly unending cast of highly talented professional country music artists whho aren't signed to major record label deals. The Independent factor gives Mildura a very different complexion, and it's a successful formula that has worked admirably over the years. In 2014, more than 100 individual artists and groups will entertain over the 10-days and the roster comprises many award winners including the Golden Guitar finalists and Star Maker winners.
